JARVIS Leroy G., 63, Okla. City, passed away Jan. 13, 1990 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1926 in Shawnee, OK to Joseph and Mary Jarvis who have preceded him in death. He was a salesman, member of the Southern Hills Baptist Church and was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was married to his wife, Sue, Dec. 31, 1947 in Norman, OK. Services will be 9:00 a.m. Tues., Jan. 16, 1990 at the Bill Eisenhour SE Chapel, a 3:00 p.m. committal service at Lofland Cemetery near Wyandotte, OK. 

He is survived by his wife, Sue, of Okla. City; 2 daughters, Jana Morris and Mardi Parks; 1 granddaughter, Sara Parks all of Okla. City; 3 sisters, Pauline Jagger of Okla. City, Pearl Ison, Okla. City and Margie Hermann of Goose Creek, SC; 2 brothers, Homer Jarvis of Tulsa and Edward Jarvis of Okla. City.

Services were Tuesday morning for LeRoy Jarvis, the former major league catcher who died last Saturday. He was 63. Jarvis, who recently had undergone a hip operation, died suddenly at his home. The Oklahoma City Central High School standout played briefly for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1944 and the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1946 and 1947.

Roy Jarvis was a catcher who spent a short stretch with the Dodgers and Pirates in 1944, 1946, and 1947, the last when he was 21 years old.

When he first broke in at age 17, he was one of the youngest players in the majors. He only played one game with the Brooklyn Dodgers, spending the year primarily with the Trenton Packers (.277/~.350/.388) and the Newport News Dodgers, where his 15 errors led the Piedmont League's catchers even though he only played 36 games there. 

1945, U.S. Navy
Jarvis served in the US Navy during World War II in 1945, then returned to baseball with the 1946 Pirates. Most of his major league at-bats (45 ouf of 50) were with the 1947 Pittsburgh Pirates. He spent most of '47 with the Indianapolis Indians and hit .231 for that AAA club with 7 homers, one shy of his career high.

At age 26, the veteran catcher put up a .270/~.329/.388 campaign for the Tulsa Oilers as the backup to Hobie Landrith. His best season in terms of raw statistics might have been 1953, when he batted .308 with eight homers back in Atlanta. In '54, Jarvis hit .250 for the Richmond Virginians and .286 for Atlanta and the Nashville Volunteers. He concluded his career in 1955 by hitting .242 with seven homers for '56 Nashville.

After baseball, he was a salesman.

He died at his home at age 63 and is buried at Lofland Cemetery in Wyandotte, OK.

Mrs. Leroy Jarvis Honored at shower

...Mrs. Jarvis, the former Miss Sue Volz, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Volz, 1920 Miramar. Mr. Jarvis is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Jarvis, 1631 SW 2. The couple's recent marriage took place in Norman.

On Friday Mrs. Jarvis will leave by plane for San Francisco, where she will join Mr. Jarvis. The couple will remain in California through the summer.
