Services for Percy Lee Jeffery will be 11:00 a.m. Monday,
January 31, 2005 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 5700 N.
Kelley Ave., OKC, OK with M. L. Jemison, Pastor and Lawrence
Kirk, officiating. Percy Lee Jeffery was born July 21, 1918, in
Kilgore, TX to Orangie Lenora King and Lee Benton Jeffery.
His parents, two sisters, Zelma Walker
and Edna Duncan, and three brothers, Joe Martin, Virgil and
Booker, preceded him in death. He spent his youth in the
community of Arbecka, Oklahoma and graduated from Douglass High
School in Wewoka. He professed his faith in Christ at an early
age and was an active member of St. Jude Baptist Church where he
sang in the Men's Chorus. He later joined St. John Missionary
Baptist Church. Percy met his true love and soul mate, Esther
Maye Thompson, and together they embarked on a journey that led
to a loving marriage that lasted nearly sixty years.
As the father of six children, he
demonstrated a strong determination to succeed in life and
transferred that ethic to his children. He attended Rose State
College. Percy served in the U.S. Army, Squad #1, Unit 392 T. C.
Truck Co.,1946 - 1948. He worked for Tinker Air Force Base as a
machinist until his retirement. He really enjoyed the outdoors,
which ultimately led to his owning and operating a thriving
landscaping service for over fifty years. He was an excellent
handy man whose craftsmanship is evidenced throughout NW and NE
Oklahoma City. With a generous heart, Percy would help anyone in
need. He was a lifetime member of Bright Day Masonic Lodge #165
of Arcadia, OK and D.A.V. He and Esther founded the Golden
Oldies Social Club.
Percy has now joined Esther in God's
heavenly embrace, and leaves to celebrate his life six children:
five daughters, Theresa Richardson of Hawthorne, CA, Patricia
Smiley, Lenora Carol Bennett and Hattie Ruth Davidson, all of
OKC; and Kathryn Jeffery of Las Vegas, NV; one son, Willie L.
Jeffery of OKC; one son-in-law, Samuel Richardson; one brother,
Willie Jones Jeffery of Arbecka; two sisters, Evon Clark of
Tulsa, Eva Ward of Colton, CA; thirteen grandchildren, twelve
great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives
