LaVonna June Jenkins

1923-2006

Funeral services for LaVonna June Jenkins, 83, of Edmond, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Matthews Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond. Interment will follow at Carney Cemetery in Carney.

Jenkins was born June 20, 1923, in Conway Springs, Kan. She died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2006, in Edmond.

Jenkins was reared on a wheat farm near Garden City, Kan., and attended Garden City High School. Following her husband’s retirement from the USAF, she settled on a farm near Stilwell where she was a homemaker and worked for the County Agent. She became an ordained minister before her family’s move to Mission, Texas, where she and her husband built and operated a travel trailer park. After moves to Whitehouse, Texas, and then to Lindale, Texas, she and her husband moved to Edmond in 2005.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Faye Mercer; brothers, Clyde and Leonard Mercer; and sister, Edna Madden.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Kenneth B. Jenkins of Edmond; her brother, Larry Mercer of Bullhead City, Ariz.; her son, James Gass of Edmond; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
