Longtime Oklahoma City area resident Helen Merriman Jones, 73, passed away May 17 in Falls Church, Va., after a long illness. She was born in New York, N.Y., the third child of the late Ralph and Bertha Marshall. She was a graduate of Amarillo (Texas) High School and earned a master's degree in vocal music at North Texas State University. A talented and attractive alto, she performed in many musicals, including Oklahoma City Lyric Theater productions, and sang with Oklahoma City's Master Chorale. She also directed or sang with choirs at churches in Oklahoma City and elsewhere. She won the Miss Amarillo title and was first runner-up for Miss Texas. She married the late Samuel E. Merriman in 1955 and they had two sons, Dan Merriman of Alexandria, Va., and Alan Merriman of Las Vegas, Nev. 

After her first husband's death she married the late William E. Jones of Oklahoma City. In addition to two sons, Jones is survived by a sister, Lois Amend of Statesboro, Ga.; a stepson, Gene Jones of Seattle, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Samantha Twyman of Oklahoma City; and two grandchildren, Blake and Chandler Twyman. 

She also is survived by four nieces and two nephews. 

She was preceded in death by a sister, Joan Wolfe of Amarillo, Tex. A memorial service will be held on May 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Putnam City Christian Church, 4215 North Grove, in Oklahoma City, followed by interment at Bethany Cemetery.
