Leo, wife of M. R. Lee, of Pottawomie avenue,
died at 8:15 o'clock on Saturday evening, June 13th inst., after
a lingering illness running through a period of many yearn of
her life as heretofore published In this paper. It was only
within the past few weeks; however, that it became apparent to
her family that the inevitable result of her affliction must
speeding end in dissolution. The end came peacefully and
painlessly while surrounded by the stricken members of her
household.
Mrs. Leo was born in Indiana near the city of Indianapolis In
the year 1837, and was 71 years of age at the time of her death.
She was married 1856 to Mahlon R. Leo who survives her, at the
early age of 19 years, and they began their young lives happily
together with practically no ___ resources than their
indomitable pluck and energy. In 1860 they removed from Indiana
to Cumberland County, ILL., where they began life in earnest.
Success crowned their efforts, and, within a few years they
owned and controlled much property of which was a large and
highly improved farm, one of the finest in the state.
After a residence of 33 years in Illinois they came to Oklahoma,
the prime object of which was that Mrs. Lee's health, which had
long been very delicate, would be improved. Hence they have
resided here continuously since 1333, and are widely known and
remembered by the older residents of Oklahoma where they have
accumulated large property interests.
The surviving members of the family are the aged and highly
respected husband. M. R. Lee, the daughter, Mrs. Cora Hopper of
No. 322 Reno avenue, and Mr. John Lee, well known In this city.
Her eldest son, Ed. A. Lee, preceded his mother in the higher
life only a short time, having died August 10th last.
