Heart Ailment Is Fatal for inventor of Parking Meter
Carl C. Magee, 73, widely known crusading newspaper editor
and civic leader here, died late Thursday night at St. Anthony
hospital. His death was attributed to coronary thrombosis.
The former editor, president of Magee-Hale Park-O-Meter Co.
at the time of his death, had been in the hospital since January
23. He had been suffering from influenza for several weeks but
had continued to go to his office until he was stricken and
taken to the hospital.
Earlier this week Magee's condition was believed improved,
but he suffered a relapse Thursday afternoon and died a few
hours later.
School teacher, lawyer, editor, inventor, business man and
simultaneously, civic worker, Shriner and prominent Methodist
layman - Magee crowded the experiences of several life-times
into his 73 years. He credited his great energy to clean living.
His period of greatest national prominence probably was in
the early 1920's during the New Mexico political fight which
culminated in the Teapot Dome naval reserve scandal, and the
downfall of Albert B. Fall, then secretary of the interior...
In 1895 Magee had marrrie Grace Griffin of Cedar Falls,
Iowa, and it was her illness with tuberculosis which finally
caused him to move to New Mexico....
Carl C. Magee Jr. was killed in an airplane accident near
Tulsa, Sept. 27, 1925...
surviving him are his son,Ted, living in Los Angeles; a
daughter, Mrs. J. D. Grenko, Port Arthur, Texas; and four
grandchildren ane two great grandchildren. The Guardin funeral
home is in charge of arragemnts which are not yet complete.

Carl C. Magee Rites Set for 3 pm Sunday
Services for Carl C. Magee, 73, retired newspaper editor and
civic leader, who died late Thursday night at St. Anthony
hospital, will be a 3 pm Sunday in First Methodist church.
The body will lie in state all day Saturday until 1pm at
Guardian Funeral Home, burial will be at 4 pm Monday in Rose
Hill cemetery, Tulsa.
The former editor was president of the Magee-Hale
Park-O-Meter, at the time of his death.
He came to Oklahoma City in 1927 and became editor of the
Oklahoma News. After his resignation from the newspaper it was
revealed he had invented a parking meter. It was tested in
Oklahoma City and Dual Parking Meter Co. was formed.

Carl Magee Buried in Tulsa Beside Wife
Tulsa Feb 4 -- Carl C. Magee,73, former fiery southwestern
editor an inventor of the parking meter, was buried here Monday
afternoon beside his wife and a son killed while training to be
a flier in World War I. He was an early-day Tulsa attoney,
leaving here in 1919.

Mrs. Magee Dies; Services Set Tuesday
Mrs. Carl C. Magee [Grace Gertrude Griffin Magee] , 62 years
old, wife of the former editor of the Oklahoma News, died at St.
Anthony's hospital Sunday. She had been critically ill since May
17, when she suffereed a cerebral hemorrhage.
Services will be conducted at the First Methodist
Episcopal church at 2 pm Tuesday. She will be buried at
Rose Hill cemetery, Tulsa, Wednesday.
Mrs. Magee is survived by her husband, a daughtger, Mrs. J. D.
Grenko, Tulsa, a son, Ted, Hollywood, Calif.; a brother, C. J.
Griffin, Montezuma, Iowa and three granddaughters.s

Albuquerque, NM - Sept 27 - Carl C. Magee,Albuquerque
editor and father of Carl C. Magee, Jr. who was killed when an
airplane in which he was riding crashed Saturday near Broken
Arrow, Okla, is enroute to Tulsa, OK. He announced before
leaving here Sunday afternoon that funeral arrangements would
not b made until he arrived in Tulsa.

Sunday at her home, 1912 Northwest Eighteenth street, was moved
to St. Anthony's hospital Monday. Her condition was reported
slightly improved.
Physicians describe her illness as "very serious"
but held out hope for her recovery.

Perci al E. magee, 51 year-old Los Angles, Calif. attorney,
brother of Carl C. Magee, city parking meter company president,
died of pneumonia Friday, according to the Associated
Press. Other survivors include his wife, three children,
and two other brothers, Biship J. Ralph Magee of the Methodist
Episcopal church, aned Rev. John Magee, Methodist minister at
Seattle, Wash.
