Charles F. Mason Dies Mysteriously
Lifeless Body Found In Home By Wife - Accidental, Says Coroner
Charles F. Mason, real estate broker, associated with the C.
B. Stone Realty company, No. 8 Robinson avenue, was shot and
killed at 6 o'clock Wednesday night at his home, 329 West Ninth
street, by a pistol held in his own hand. Mr. Mason was alone at
the time, and details of the shooting are not known.
The deceased reached his home at his usual hour in the
evening and after shaving, discussed with his wife the
possibility of burglars entering the home during the absence of
the family. Mrs. Mason left the room, after producing a pistol
she kept hidden and a few seconds thereafter the sound of a
shoot in the front room caused Mrs. Mason and a number of the
neighbors to rush to the room, where the deceased was found
lying on the floor dead with a pistol wound in the right side.
Mr. Mason was in his usual good spirits all of Wednesday and
had planned an automobile ride for the evening. Besides the
widow, a father and sister residing in Des Moines, Iowa,
survive.
No funeral arrangements had been announced at a late hour
Wednesday night. Coroner Hawkins, who conducted an investigation
immediately after the shooting, declared that in his opinion
death was accidental. No inquest was held.
