Rev. Thomas H. Harper read a scripture lesson from 1st Corinthians,
fifteeth chapter.
He chose for a text, 1st Samuel, 20-3. "There is but a step between me
and death."
In his well chosen remarks he said that changes come suddenly and
unexpectedly and as we lay our plans for the future, there is an irresistible
power which sandals our feet, puts a pilgrims staff in our hand, and hurries
us on. "The pilgrimage is short, the older we get, the swifter we travel;
a short time given us to weave the threads of that heavenly robe, and yet, day
by day, we shine, we weave, through our characters.
The deceased was of a bright sunny disposition, having a smile and a word
of cheer for all. She will be greatly missed in the community, and the
sorrowing friends have the heart felt sympathy of all who knew her.
She carried out in her life the sentiment in the following verse.
"There are lonely hearts to cherish, While the days are going by,
There are weary souls to perish, While the days are going by,
If a smile we can renew While our journey we pursue.
Oh the good we all may do While the days are going by."
The casket was covered with flowers and one beautiful piece with
"Mother" upon it.
Thus the last sad rites of a faithful wife and a loving mother were
performed by loving hands.
