Cecile
Lucille Lovell was born in Luther, OK on Oct. 20, 1919 to Ross
and Cecile (Cole) Lovell. On Nov. 14, 2003, she slipped away
quietly in the arms of loved ones in her home near Las Cruces,
NM.
Lucille graduated from Luther High School in 1937, after
which she was employed by the First National Bank of Luther. On
Oct. 9, 1942, she was united in marriage with Alfred Byron
McAllister. A lifelong member of Luther’s First Christian
Church, Lucille served in many capacities but took a special
interest in the youth and music programs.
When she retired in 1983, she had served as Luther’s
postmaster for 33 years. Later she and her beloved Pekingese,
Chubby, split their time between her home in Luther and her home
in Las Cruces. With her daughter, she shared an interest in the
preservation of Luther history and the genealogy of its founding
families. The results of their efforts will remain online as
Ceil’s Corner: http://ceil.rootsweb.com/
.
Preceded in death by her husband, Lucille is survived by: her
daughter, Sharon McAllister of Las Cruces; one sister, Louise
Couch of Luther; two nieces, Denise Johnson of Claremore and
Diane Couch of Luther; cousins Nieva Munkres, Vieva Yoesting,
Paul Vorel, Emil Vorel, Carlton Canada, and Kay Rempel. Plus a
host of extended family and friends as she considered herself
“related to half the town of Luther and friends with the other
half.”
In New Mexico, she is also survived by the circle of friends
who made it possible to live and die in her own home: Lillian
White, Tim and Jan Timmons, Jim and Sheryl Bates, John Jenkins;
and many others who contributed to her full life for the last
few years.
Visitation will be held at Brown’s Funeral Home in Luther
from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20. Services will be
conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at the First Christian
Church of Luther with burial to follow at the Luther Cemetery.
