William James McMullin, of Oklahoma City, passed from this Earth on Jul 11, 2008 at his home. Bill was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Feb. 8, 1923 to his loving mother, Maybelle.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Doty.

He leaves his second wife, Sandy, in OKC and a daughter Molly Jones and grandson, Eli, in Australia.

As a youth, Bill was a competitive sailor, and a musician for the Minneapolis Symphony. Bill landed on a Normandy beach the day before D Day as a scout, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and helped free a Nazi death camp. After the war, he was a cowboy in New Mexico and then graduated on the GI Bill from the U. of Oklahoma with an Engineering degree. In 1985, he retired from ATT and at age 65, fulfilled a lifelong dream by sailing a 17' boat around the "Great Circle." He left Tulsa and sailed down the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers to New Orleans. He then followed the Intercoastal WaterWay around to New York, came up the Hudson River, the Erie Canal, and the Great Lakes to Chicago. He then descended the Mississippi back to the Arkansas and returned to Tulsa,  14 months later. Bill was very active in skiing, dancing, hockey, bicycling, sail boat racing, fancy knot tying, traditional music, canoeing, and kayaking. He was a docent at the Cowboy Hall of Fame and there became friends with Indian artist, Greg Goseyun. Bill was honored when Greg initiated him into the San Carlos Apache Tribe. He was also proud to be the oldest member of the Oklahoma City Boat Club and to have earned an Advanced Pilot certificate from the OKC Power Squadron. Bill loved to pass on his many skills to others, and he truly never met a stranger. We are all diminished without him. A special thanks to Hospice of Oklahoma County for the loving care given to Bill and Sandy.

In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Lupus foundation of Oklahoma or a charity of your choice. Friends of the family are invited. Corbett Funeral Home, 807 W. Wilshire Boulevard OKC, OK 73116.
