Mrs. Merriman State '89er, Dies
Mrs. S.A. Merriman, 74, an '89er, died Wednesday morning in
Mercy hospital following a brief illness.
Born at Mabon, Miss., she came to the state with her father,
the late Dr. Robert Butler, pioneer state physician, and settled
at Star in 1889. In 1899 she married S. S. Merriman, Keota
lawyer who died several years ago.
A member of the Baptist church, she had made her home here
since moving from Keota 12 years ago.
Services will be at 11am Saturday at Keota. Smith & Kernke
funeral home is making local arrangements.
Survivors include two daughter, Mrs. J. E.West and Mrs. B. E.
Gingles, National City, Calif., four sons, Rev. C. J. Merriman
and Grady Merriman, both of San Diego, Calif., Jack Merriman,
Tuscon, Ariz. and Leo M. Merriman, Wewoka, 15 grandchildren.
