Jack Mitchell was born May 6, 1919, in Pittsburg, Texas to William Lollis and Angie Bell Mitchell . Jack grew up and graduated from high school in Sherman, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1938 - 1945 as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He made several combat jumps, including the initial D-Day invasion of Normandy. His many decorations include two Purple Hearts.

In 1946, he married Joan Scrivner. They made their home in Midwest City, OK, where Jack worked in Air traffic control at Tinker AFB. Jack was a dedicated family man, a good friend to many, and an avid golfer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Mitchell , his sister Margie Shirley and his brother Kenneth Mitchell.

He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Mitchell , and his two sisters, Doris Smith and Helen High.

The family will meet and greet friends today from 2:00 4:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Services will be in the Paylor Chapel Monday, December 1, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. Paylor Funeral Home.
