Daily Oklahoman Oklahoma City, Oklahoma May 7, 1940 page 5 John W. Murphy, 74 year old early day state cowboy, died of a heart ailment Monday morning in Jackson Mercy hospital, following an illness of two months. Murphy, a '89er, worked as a cowboy while living in Foss, Washita county. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Betty Stacey, De Leon, Texas, and a nephew, L. M. Richburg, 2312 West Lawn place.
