Donald Eugene Newell, 68, of Norman, died Wednesday September 26 in Oklahoma City. Mr. Newell was born December 3, 1932, in Miami, Florida to Walter and Ora Belle (Reeves) Newell. He was in aviation all of his life with the final ten years at a facility in Ardmore, Oklahoma. He disassembled heavy aircraft including 727, DC 10, 747, L1001, etc., to distribute parts.

He retired in 1995 after the death of his loving wife of 35 years, Shirley York Newell.

He is survived by two sons, Jeff Newell of Norman, Rick Newell and his wife, Jennifer of Norman; two grandsons, Tyler and Corey Newell; a granddaughter, Kyla Newell; a step brother, Burton E. Sheffield of Palm City, Florida; a step sister, Jeanette Jeans of Homestead, Florida; and a constant companion of four years, Betty Jean Lewis of Blanchard.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2001, in the Primrose Chapel with Rev. Marvin Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Denver Cemetery.

Shirley York Newell, of Norman, died Tuesday, January 10, 1995 at Norman Regional Hospital following a brief illness. She was 55. Services will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m. at the Primrose Chapel in Norman with Sunny Stuart of the Little Axe Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Denver Cemetery under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service. The daughter of Melton Dee and Vera Viva York, she was born November 24, 1939 in Norman, Ok. Mrs. Newell was a graduate of Norman High School. She moved to Miami, Florida in 1962 and returned to the Little Axe Community, east of Norman, in 1983. Mrs. Newell was an active member of the Cleveland County Christmas Store for 9 years, serving as Grocery Manager for the past 7 years and as Store Chairman in 1990. She also worked with the Little Axe Community Center Social Services Food Closet to provide food to the needy. She was a member of the OSU Extension Club. Current Secretary of the Little Axe Good Neighbors Club, which is part of the Oklahoma Association for Family Community Education. She previously held the offices of President and Treasurer. As a member of the club, she worked with the Juvenile Services Christmas Stocking Project. Mrs. Newell was also a Court Appointed Special Advocate of the Cleveland County Juvenile Court System, protecting the rights of abused or neglected children and was involved in the Womens Resource Center and the Child Abuse Response Team of Cleveland County. On December 12, 1958, she married Donald Eugene Newell . He survives her at their home. Mrs. Newell is also survived by her sons, Jeffrey Dean Newell and Richard Lee Newell with their wives, Laura and Jennifer of Norman; a sister, Nadine Richmond and her husband, Fred of Noble; two brothers, Eugene York and his wife, Mildred of Norman, Ronnie York and his wife, Cathy, also of Norman; two grandchildren, Tyler and Corey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melton Dee and Vera Viva York . Richard Newell, Ronnie York, Bobby York, Tony York, Jackie York and Jim Robertson will serve as bearers with Eric Robertson and Curtis Raney
