Former longtime Duncan, Okla. resident, Douglas Eugene Nix, age 82, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Sunday, November 30, 2008, in Oklahoma City. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at First Christian Church, Duncan, with the Rev. Arnold Nelson officiating.

Doug was born on July 9, 1926 in Duncan to Roy William and Dorothy Vera Hamilton Nix. He married Wynema Darlene Pirkle on June 28, 1956 at Wichita Falls, Texas. She preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 2007. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy. Doug was a 1944 Duncan High School graduate and played on the All State Football Team. He earned a Business Administration degree from The University of Oklahoma in 1950. He was employed with Dr. Pepper Company in Dallas from 1951 to 1955. After moving to Duncan, he worked with Security National Bank from 1969 until his retirement from American National Bank in 1995. In Duncan, Doug was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club since 1965 and he was a former mayor. He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as an elder.

Survivors include two daugters, Debra Nix Hitzelberger and husband, Bob of Dallas, Texas and Donna Nix Blakley and husband, Ken of Oklahoma City; a son, Richard Nix and wife, Mindy of Edmond; a sister, Ginger Day of Duncan; six grandchildren, Douglas Nix, Susanne Nix, Mary Katherine Blakley, Caroline Jane Blakley, Katharine Lomax Hitzelberger and Jack Nix Hitzelberger; an aunt, Betty Cochran of Dallas; and nieces, Marilyn Pixley, Carolyn Dillon and Kathy Thompson.

He was also preceded in death by his parents. Honorary bearers will be: Jack Guerkink, Marty Askins , Quanah Cox, Gene Nelson, Tommy Jones, Richard Dixon, Jack B. Smith, J.D. Carter, Buddy Campbell and Carl Slifer. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: First Christian Church, 912 W. Walnut, Duncan, Okla. 73533 or your charity of choice.
