Lonzo Kevin (Lonnie) Payton

Lonnie Payton died February 29, 1992 at his home in Choctaw, Oklahoma. He was 70. Payton was born October 5, 1921 in Farris, Oklahoma, the son of William and Caltha Payton. He was an enrolled Choctaw, roll #11718. He was also a registered Choctaw voter. He was a lifelong resident of Oklahoma. 

A retired Cement Mason, he helped build and finish a very big part of many construction locations all over Oklahoma. He was married to Betty Jo Stewart from Bennington, Oklahoma. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church in Antlers, Oklahoma. 

Payton was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one granddaughter. 

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo Payton, Choctaw, Oklahoma; two daughters, Linda Jo and son-in-law, David Boland, Nicoma Park, Oklahoma and Don Winslyn Payton of the home; sixteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Payton of Bowie, Texas and Albert Payton of Brigham City, Utah and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services were held at Hunter Memory Chapel by Rev. Doug Parker and Horace Tyson. Eulogy was by his oldest son, Lathin Dale Payton. He was laid to rest at Arlington Memory Garden, Midwest City, Oklahoma. Pallbearers by request were: his four sons, his nephew, David W. Payton and one grandson, Chris Gilbert.
