Francis M. "Frank" Pickel lost his battle with congestive heart failure November 26 at home in Austin, Texas.

Frank was born March 23, 1924, the youngest son of 7 children. He served his country faithfully as a Marine on Guadalcanal during World War II and as a member of the Fighting 45th in Korea.

In 1946, he married Marie Darwin of Altus, OK. Frank received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1947, and began his daily trek to Oklahoma City where he opened his first law office from which he retired in 1979. He and his wife subsequently opened an office in Norman where they practiced law for a number of years. Frank was a leader in the effort to establish a memorial to the Company D 179th Infantry and Company C 120th Engineers at the northwest corner of the Cleveland County Courthouse block in Norman.

In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the 45th Infantry Division Association for the benefit of the museum located at 2145 NE 36th Street, OKC, OK 73111.
