Mrs. Margaret E. Ponder, age 83, of Pine Bluff, formerly Oklahoma City, Oklahoma died Friday, May 25, 2001.

She was born June 10, 1917, in Kingsland, Arkansas, a daughter of the late Lee. L. and Viva Leslie Childress.

Mrs. Ponder was reared and received her education in Kingsland and was a graduate of Kingsland High School. She attended Arkansas A & M for two years. She taught school in Kingsland before being employed by D. E. Moore’s Mercantile at Rison for several years.

Upon her marriage to Mr. Joel Maurice Ponder on April 6, 1945, she and Mr. Ponder moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she was a Department Manager for John A. Brown Department Store until her retirement in 1980.

She was a faithful and active member of the May Avenue Methodist Church in Oklahoma City for over 45 years.

Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Truston L. and Betty Childress of Portland, Oregon; 3 sisters, Bernice E. Parham of Pine Bluff, Pauline Cash and Nan Seymore, both of Warren; nephews and nieces, Edward Lee and Sandra Parham of Pine Bluff, Bruce and Mary Alice Cash of Warren, Don and Ann Cash of McGehee, Betty and Sonny Moss of Orlando, Florida, Leslie and Suzanne Childress of Seattle, Washington, Craig Childress of Portland, Oregon, Linda and Frank Selman of Magnolia, and Parrie Jane and Thomas Carroll of Dallas, Texas.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 31, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Magnolia with Dr. J. R. DeBusk officiating. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2001, at May Avenue Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Memorials may be made to May Avenue Methodist Church, 2604 North May Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
