OBITUARY
QUINCEY - The funeral of John Quincey was held yesterday afternoon
at the negro church on East First street. Quincy was an ex-slave and lacked
but 28 days of being 100 years old. His death was due to old age. Quincy was
born at Mexico, Mo., and at the time of the Civil war was taken with several
hundred other negroes to Texas for fear they might be freed. Following the emancipation
the returned to Missouri, where he remained until 1891. He had been a member
of the church for 74 years. During all of his life, he had never been ill
until the last few days.
