"BANDMASTER, DIRECTOR J.B. ROUNDS DIES AT 74; RITES SET
Services for J.B. "Chick" Rounds, 74, of 4748 SE 18, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bill Eisenhour Southeast Funeral Home, with burial in
Spring Creek Cemetery.
Rounds died Sunday at the Veterans Administration hospital.
Born in Detroit, Mich., he moved to Oklahoma City in 1910. He graduated from the Army Band School in 1924 and had served as bandmaster for the 4th Field Artillery. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was principal clarinetist for the Houston Symphony Orchestra, and had played and recorded with professional dance bands.
Serving a total of 43 years in public school instrumental music programs, 30 as a bandmaster, he directed many award-winning concert and marching school bands in Joplin, Mo., Oklahoma City and Midwest City. He was a member of Olivet Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude; a daughter, Mrs. Bettie Herring, Midwest City; three brothers, Charles H., Roswell, N.M.; William, Salt Lake City, Utah, and John, Fort Smith, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace E. Rost, Nicoma Park, and Mrs. Bettye Ruth Wedding, Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren."
