Robert S. Scales, born September 11, 1910, at Greenwood Arkansas, to Cicero and Freda Gorham Scales, died Dec. 27, 1990. 

He is survived by his wife, Ann Scales; sons, Robert R. Scales, and John J. Scales; a daughter, Freda Scales; daughters-in-law, Peggy Scales, Joan Scales, and Nancy Philputt; son-in-law, Frederick Philputt; grandchildren, Robert Michael Scales, Amanda Kathleen Scales, Andrew Todd Scales, Allison Anne Scales, Virginia Enas, and Robert and Dianne Enas; and many members of the Scales, Gorham, Griffiths and Cook extended families. 

Robert S. Scales attended John Brown University, Oklahoma Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and Inez Griffith Scales served in many churches during his active ministry, including the First Baptist Churches of Davenport, Lindsey, Sulphur, Durant, Seminole, Oklahoma, and for 25 years he was the pastor of Trinity Baptist Church of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, until he retired in 1977. Both Inez Scales and Ann Scales faithfully served as help-mates and pastor's wife while Dr. Scales was pastor of Trinity.

Since retirement he has served many churches as interim pastor, supply preacher, seminary teacher and wise counselor. Throughout his ministry Dr. Scales was active in the denomination. He worked with the associations where he served, most recently the Capital Baptist Association. He provided leadership for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, preached at Falls Creek, held many revivals, and supported the state-wide work. He also was a frequent writer of Sunday School lessons for the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. 

Memorial Service at Trinity Baptist Church, Dec. 29, Saturday, 10:00 am.
