Betty Jane Scott, 87, of Bay City died August 17, 2001 at Herman Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She was born November 18, 1913 in Oklahoma City, Okla. to the late Robert M. and Luna Dickers Scott.

Betty Jane was introduced to Texas by spending several summers at Camp Waldamer in Kerrville. She received her BS degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and a Master of Education from the University of Oklahoma.

She taught physical education in the Dallas school systems and at Florida State University. Betty Jane was a counselor at Uvalde High School before taking a position at Bay City Junior High in 1963.

She was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in the Waves during WWII and the Korean War, and retired from the US Naval Reserves after 28 years of service.

Betty Jane was active in the Pilot Club of Bay City, the D.A.R. Mary Rolph Marsh Chapter, and the Bay City Book Review Club. She also was a life member of Texas Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include: sister and brother-in-law, Louise and George Bass of Oklahoma City; niece, Linda Morrison of Seattle, Wash., nephew, Dr. Bill Bass of Oklahoma City; and three great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced in September.

Memorials may be made to the McAllister Scholarship Fund c/o the First United Methodist Church of Bay City.
