Khouriah Hafeeza Shadid. Precious in the sight of the Lord is
the death of His Saints. Khouriah Hafeeza Shadid ascended into
Heaven on April 17, 1995 as the Lord took one of His Saints to
be with Him. Khouriah was born October 23, 1896 in Merjayoun,
Lebanon to Mose and Shaheena Hourany. She attended school in
Merjayoun, where she graduated with honors.
During and after World War I, she began working for the Red
Cross. In 1920, she and her sister, Louise, migrated to America,
where she met and married Naymtallah Shadid . Shortly
thereafter, she and her husband settled in Oklahoma City. In
1933, the Lord called Naymtallah to serve as one of His
messengers on earth. The family moved back to Lebanon, where
Naymtallah was ordained in the Antiochian Orthodox Christian
Church as a Very Reverend. In 1946, the Lord called Naymtallah
to serve with Him in Heaven. Khouriah moved back to Oklahoma
City, where she raised their five children with strength and
love. For eighteen years, she worked as a seamstress for
McDowell Brothers. After she retired, she continued her selfless
nature to help others as she volunteered at the Red Cross and
Children's Hospital in Bethany.
Khouriah was a very devout Servant of Christ and devoted much of
her time assisting the Church and parish members. She was a very
active member of the Ladies Aid Society.
Khouriah was preceded in death by her husband, Naymtallah; her
oldest son, Morris Shadid ; her sister, Louise Haddad; her
brother, Taufik Hourany.
She is survived by two sons and Virginia. Khouriah was blessed
with eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Trisagion Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18,
1995 at St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 2101
N.W. 16th Street, Oklahoma City. The sealing of the casket will
be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 1995 followed by funeral
service at 10:30 a.m. at her Church, which she loved very much,
St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church. Burial will be
at Fairlawn Cemetery
followed by a Meal of Mercy at St. Elijah. Memorials may be made
to the St. Elijah Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church Flowers
That Do Not Wither Fund. The services will be officiated by Very
Reverend Father Constantine Nasr, Reverend Father Basil McMurry
and other clergy of the Antiochian Archdiocese, N.A. The Lord is
my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green
pastures, He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my
soul...Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of
my life: and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.
Khouriah dedicated her life to her family, her Church and her
community. As a loving wife, a devoted mother and a nurturing
grandmother, she has touched so many lives and left so many
loving memories. Mom and Sitty, we love you deeply and miss you.
