ODESSA — Genevieve Sherman, 96, of Odessa died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at her residence. She was born June 3, 1906, to T.J. and Mary Belle Duncan in Oklahoma Territory and lived in Oklahoma City until 1997 when she moved to Odessa.
Genevieve married Byron Sherman Dec. 1, 1927. Byron preceded her in death Aug. 29, 1964. She was employed as a proofreader for many years at The Leader Press. She was a member of Crown Heights United Methodist Church and attended St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Odessa. Genevieve was “Sooner born and Sooner bred” and she’s still a Sooner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Elizabeth Knox, and a brother, T.J. Duncan Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Allred and husband, Richard, of Odessa; her son, Byron “Ben” Sherman Jr. and wife, Mary Anne, of Edmond, Okla.; granddaughters, Deanna Howard and husband, Curt, of Monahans, Emily Peck and husband, Ian, of Grapevine and Carrie Ann Shenk and husband, Joe, of Oklahoma City; grandson, Stephen Allred and wife, Amy, of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Tams and Taylor Howard, William Peck and Genevieve Anne Shenk.
The family will be available for visitation from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City.
