Pioneer Facing Morphine Death
Captain Henry Sommers, 314 West Main street, is in a critical condition,
the result of an overdose of morphine, taken Sunday night to relieve pain.
His condition was discovered at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, 13 hours
after he took the drug. Dr. Witten administered antidotes, but as yet
Captain Sommers' recovery cannot be forecast with any certainty. He has been
a resident of Oklahoma City since the opening in 1889.

Drinks Morphine; Death Is Result
Captain Henry Sommers died at his home, 314 West Main street, last
evening from the effects of an overdose of morphine, taken to induce sleep.
Unable to rest Sunday night, Captain Sommers drank about an ounce of
bromidia (sic). When this did not produce sleep he took morphine.
He was found Monday afternoon still asleep and an empty box showing that
2-1-2 grains of morphine had been purchased, lay on the floor.
Captain Sommers came to Oklahoma City in April 1889, and has resided here
since that time. He owned at one time what is now known as Sommers addition
and was prominent in Oklahoma City during the early years.

Body Still Is Held
Awaiting the arrival of his daughter, who is expected in the city today,
the body of Captain Henry Somers (sic), who died Tuesday afternoon after
having taken an overdose of morphine to induce sleep, is being held at
Street & Harper's undertaking rooms, pending funeral arrangements.

Will Arrange Funeral
Mrs. Bart Pickett, daughter of Captain Henry Sommers, who died last
Tuesday morning of an overdose of morphine, arrived in the city from Idaho
last night. Funeral arrangements will be made today.

Captain Henry Sommers, who died here last Tuesday afternoon, will be
buried this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Funeral service will be conducted at
Street and Harper's undertaking establishment.
