Robert Ben Struble, 53, of Norman, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, after an extended illness. He was born to Frank and Elizabeth Forrester Struble on March 19, 1954, in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He graduated from C. E. Donart High School in Stillwater in May of 1972. He went on to Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1977 with a degree in Zoology. He attended Oklahoma City University Law School, graduating in July 1982. During his high school and college years, Bob participated in wrestling, racquetball and scouting. He also played violin in the orchestra.
On March 14, 1981, Bob married Cheryl Sutterfield of Norman. Bob worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission where he served as the Senior Deputy General Counsel. He left state government to work for Arthur Anderson LLP and then Ernst & Young LLP. At the time of his death, he was a Principal with Grant Thornton LLP, an international accounting firm. He loved working!! Mr. Struble was an active member of McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, contributing by teaching Sunday School and working with the youth. He participated in mission work and Bible studies. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, awarded the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory BV rating, and was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the State of Oklahoma, the US Tax Court and the Supreme Court of the United States where he successfully defended an Oklahoma tax law, in April of 1995. He was a member of the Board of Trustees for Youth Services for Oklahoma County. Bob was an Eagle Scout, and was an active Cub Scout leader for his son, Matt. He was a dedicated coach and fan of son, Matthew's baseball team, and daughter, Courtney's softball and competitive tennis teams. Bob loved walks with his dogs, stargazing, classic rock music, and live theater and concerts. He was an avid and eclectic reader, especially enjoying history, mysteries and biographies. Among his passions were old trucks, trains, model railroading, building models, and was a ham radio operator. Bob was a huge Yankees fan. He also enjoyed fly-fishing and outdoor activities in the mountains. Bob was devoted to God and his family.
He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Charles Arthur (Rick) Struble.
His wife Cheryl, of the home, son Matthew and wife Ashlee of Norman, daughter Courtney, a student at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, and his mother survives him. Memorial services will be held at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 4:00 pm. Memorial gifts may be made to Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society.
