The Rev.
J . L . Tramel , lover of people, from his family to his flock,
died Tuesday, August 21, 2007, at the OU Medical Center, four
days shy of his 79th birthday. Tramel was a wonderful husband,
father, grandfather, great-grandfather and pastor of the Purcell
Pentecostal Holiness Church. He previously pastored the First
Pentecostal Holiness Church in Norman. He had a lifelong love of
music and taught himself to play the piano. He and his wife sang
for church services, celebrations and funerals for 55 years.
Tramel and Lena Faye Womack were married April 8, 1960, and
lived in the Norman area most of the last 47 years.
Tramel is survived by his wife of the home; and three sons,
Berry and wife Patricia of Norman, Terry and wife Rebecca of
Norman, and Kerry and wife Vy of Norman. Other survivors are
grandchildren, Haley Argyle and husband J . J . of Norman, Tara
Tramel , Clayton Tramel and Zander Tramel ; and
great-granddaughter, Riley Argyle; brothers, Joe Tramel and wife
Von of Pryor, Junior Tramel and wife Norma of Salina, Okla., Don
Tramel and wife Doris of Catoosa; sisters, Jean Molder of
Powell, MO, Maxine Sanford and husband Bob of Sulphur, Jaunema
Benham of Salina, Elaine Cole of Verdigris and Diane Ball and
husband Brian of Salina.
J . L . Tramel was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill
and Roy. Tramel was born Aug. 25, 1928, in Cleveland, Okla., and
was raised around Salina. He served in the United States Air
Force, then attended the University of Oklahoma, from which he
obtained a Bachelor's degree in History and a Master's degree in
Education. Tramel was an educator and motel manager before
pastoring. He taught, coached or administrated in Norman, Noble,
Longdale, Strong, Sumner, Gueda Springs, Kan., and Joplin, MO.
Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, August 24, 2007, at the
Lakeside Church of God. Burial will be at Norman IOOF Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Primrose Funeral Service.
