Anna Wahl, Pioneer Of Edmond, Dies
Funeral for Church, Community Leader
To Be Friday
Rites for Mrs. Anna M. Wahl. 72 years old. 1920
Northwest Twenty-eighth street, who died Wednesday, will be at
10 a. m. Friday at Smith and Kernke funeral home. Burial will be
in Fairlawn cemetery.
From Taliula ____ the Wahl family—Mrs. Wahl, her
husband. I. G. Wahl. and their infant daughter Lydia — arrived
At Edmond in October 1889.
Mrs. Wahl's husband became A mercantile dealer.
and later joined the late Anton H. Classen in Oklahoma City to
start a street railway company and a real estate business.
Mrs. Wahl, a landscape gardener used her
influence to beautify with trees the boulevard in Edmond. and
planning of avenues and streets in early-day Oklahoma City
through suggestions to Classen. She was treasurer of the first
Ladies' Aid society in Edmond. helped found some church
activities still being carried on and helped obtain salaries for
Edmond public school teachers in 1889.
She is survived by her husband: three daughters,
Mrs. Walter H. Rhodes, Boise, Idaho: Mrs. Earl D. McBride,
Northwest Tenth street and Evan-Hale road: Mrs. Wayne H.
McCalister, 1103 Woodlawn avenue; brothers. Dr. Will G. Classen.
Glendale. Calif.: Gerhardt W. Classen, Dallas; Jake Classen,
Yoder, Colo. and John, Okalahoma City; sisters. Mrs. Arthur
Weissenfluh, Lockwood, Mo. and Mrs. Ed Landwehr, city and Mrs.
Charles Guenter, St. Louis.
