OKLAHOMA CITY -- Manford Sigsbee White Jr., 68, former teacher and wrestling coach in Newton, died Thursday (Dec. 2, 1999) at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
He was born Nov. 12, 1931, in Blackwell, Okla., to Manford Sigsbee and Annie Marie Schlaak White.
He graduated from Blackwell High School in 1949. He received his bachelor's degree from Northern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla. He attended Wichita State University for two years.
He married Constance Louise Webster June 4, 1951, in Purcell, Okla. She survives. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church and attended First Baptist Church in Nash, Okla. He was a member of Blackwell AF &AM Lodge and Kansas Consistory.
He began his teaching and coaching career at Pauls Valley in 1955. He taught science and coached for eight years in Sand Springs, Okla., before moving to Newton where he taught and coached wrestling for 12 years. He moved to Tucson, Ariz., when he retired. He then moved to Enid, Okla., where he was maintenance supervisor for Hunter Hill Apartments for 13 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Other survivors include: two sons, Manford Sigsbee White III of Newton and Scottie Ray White of Nash; and six grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Nash with the Revs. Bobby Smith and Frank Webster officiating. Interment will follow in Bayard Cemetery in Deer Creek, Okla.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for leukemia research in care of Wilson Funeral Home of Pond Creek, Okla.
