Negro Killed By Angered Rival
Fight Over Woman Results In Murder - Slayer Escapes
Tollie Williams, a negro, 19 years old, was killed in a fight
with another negro, whose name is unknown to the police, at 724
East First street shortly after midnight Monday. William's
throat was cut from ear to ear by his antagonist, who made good
his escape.
The fight was over Lucy Mills, a negress, who had been in
company with the strange man, whose name she says she does not
remember. Williams met the couple on East First, and attempted
to take the Mills woman from the other man. He was unarmed and
had little show against the stranger, who bent Williams head
back, and with one blow slashed his throat from ear to ear. He
died before the arrival of a physician.
The police telephoned a description of the man wanted for the
murder to neighboring towns immediately after the killing.
