August 14, 1995. Dick was born May 8, 1926 in Burkburnett, Tx. to Osman Frank and Era LaVada Zimmerman. Dick grew up in McPherson, Ks. and earned both a business and geology degree from Wichita State University. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served in the Signal Corps. Dick married Norma Ruckman of Farmer City, Il. on May 4, 1958 and they moved to Oklahoma City in 1963. He worked as District Petroleum Geologist for Petroleum, Inc. in Oklahoma City and retired in 1991 after 38 years.
He was working as an independent geologist at the time of his death. Dick was an active member of his community, and was a lifelong member of the Boy Scouts. He earned his Eagle Scout and served as Scoutmaster of Troop 159 in Oklahoma City for over 10 years, during which time he participated in 5 treks at Philmont Scout Ranch. Dick was an active member of the Northside YMCA for 30 years, where he met with an early morning running club three days a week. Dick and Norma were avid square dancers for over 15 years and belonged to several local clubs. They attended 15 national square dance conventions. They were members of the Village United Methodist Church for 30 years. Some of the professional organizations to which Dick belonged are Kansas Geological Society, Oklahoma Geological Society, S.I.P.E.S., AAPG, CPG, Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists, and WGA. He loved nature and spent much of his time camping and traveling.
Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and was known as a caring and gentle person by all his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Norma; his son, Dan and daughter-in-law, Denise of Houston, Tx.; his daughter, Nancy and son-in-law, Dr. Braxton Little of Calabasas, Ca. and their children, Skyler and Heartleigh; his brother, Osman Frank Zimmerman, Jr. and his wife, Rita, of Marble Falls, Tx.; 3 sisters, Era June and husband Ed Colby of Newton, Ks., Mary Lou and husband Bill Holloway of Urbana, Il. and Emily Joanne and husband Nils Pierson of Bismarck, N.D.
Funeral services will be held at Village United Methodist Church, 2:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 1995.
