Bessie Bolinger Harris, joined the Lord
in Heaven Oct. 9, 1990. She was born Jan. 18, 1901, to Harrison
and Laura Bolinger at 501 SW Pottowatomie St., Oklahoma City,
Oklahoma. The Bolingers lived at Remus but moved to Maud in 1905
where Bessie attended school and finished. She attended Central
State, finishing two years, and receiving a Life Teacher
certificate in 1918. The school year of 1918-19, Bessie taught
in Konawa where she joined the First Methodist Church.
In 1920, Bessie married Jim Harris Jr.
of Hazel. The next 50 years Bessie taught in Seminole County at
Hazel, Dora, Central UG2, Summers Chapel, Maud, Limestone, Wolf,
Wewoka and New Model. Bessie received her degree from East
Central in 1928 and a Masters in 1954. She was very politically
minded and ran for County School Superintendent in 1936.
Bessie was preceded in death by her
husband, Jim Harris and one brother, Albert Bolinger. She is
survived by two daughters and sons-in-law,
Jimmie and Bob Ong and Elizabeth and Bob Ammerman; four
grandsons and three granddaughters-in-law, James Ong, Tony and
Debra Ong, Jim and Chari Ammerman, Robert and Clydelle Ammerman;
four great grandchildren, Brenda, Jonathan, Erin and David
Ammerman; one sister, Cecilia Wilson; four sisters-in-law, Sybel
Harrison, Dexter Goodwin, Georgia McClurg and Genava Harris.
