Calvin N. Richards, born March 8, 1931, Hatfield, Ark., passed from this life, July 24, 2009, at Midwest Regional Medical Center. Calvin was the second child of V.E. and Florence Richards. As a child and young man Calvin spent his days helping with the family farm and being active in the Hatfield and Arkansas State FFA, serving as State FFA Secretary one term. He was also salutatorian of his 1949 High School graduating class. May 7, 2009, Calvin and his bride, Teny, celebrated their 60th anniversary. Calvin spent his adult life in the construction field. He could drive through Nichols Hills, Quail Creek, Edmond, Cruthcho as well as town in Kansas, Louisiana, and Texas pointing out his many building projects. Calvin was a member of the Church of Christ and was active in many ways in the church through his lifetime from leading singing as a young man to teaching VBS, teaching teen and adult Bible classes. Calvin’s favorite pastimes were shared at extended family gatherings and he especially enjoyed flying his Cessna airplane.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Teny, of the home, daughters Christina Chapman and husband Mike, of Ponca City, Edwina Griffith and husband Don of Midwest City, and his beloved grandsons, Jon Griffith and wife Heather of Midwest City, and Phillip Chapman of Ponca City. Calvin also leaves his brothers, Edward Richards of Portland, Ore., David Richards of Houston, Tx., and his sister, Lucile Lance of Mena, Ark., sister and brother-in-law Leon and Lena Griffin, sister-in-law Mozelle Burkeen, nieces and nephews. During the difficult final months of his life Calvin had many special caregivers. The family would like to express special thanks to the doctors and staff at Midwest Regional Medical Center, Dr. Jerome Mathias and Tracy, Dr. Barry Mitchell, Dr. Drew Cooper and the Staff at Midwest City Nursing Center. Your concern, care and friendship have meant much.
Funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel, 1820 S Douglas Blvd, Midwest City, OK. Interment to follow at
Kolb Cemetery, Spencer, OK.
