Luther Lee Lawson, 89, passed away on November 8, 2011 at Arbor House of Lewisville, Texas. Luther was born July 19, 1922 in Sterling, Oklahoma to Joseph Earl and Leona E. (Manning) Lawson.

Luther served our country for over 20 years in the United States Army and the United States Air Force and was a POW of World War II. Luther eventually retired on August 31, 1959 after 20 years and 11 days of active federal service. He initially enlisted as a Private in the Regular Army on September 22, 1938, serving in the Field Artillery and Infantry. On September 16, 1947, he re-enlisted in the Regular Air Force in the grade of Sergeant, until September 16, 1950, when he again re-enlisted in the grade of Staff Sergeant, performing duties as Inventory Management Specialist. Luther served in Europe during World War II, and participated in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns. He has earned the following awards since entry into the military service: European-African-Middle Eastern Medal; American Defense Service Medal; American Campaign Medal; Victory Medal World War II; Occupational Medal; Korean Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal with 4 loops and Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon with three bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. He has also served in Korea; Guam and Newfoundland.

He traveled with his wife to Guam, Hawaii and other various places. He is survived by his five children: Sharon Lussier and husband Ron, Robbie Carpenter and husband George, Glenn Lawson and wife Keri, Phyllis Lawson, and Wayne Lawson; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Bill Eisenhour Northeast Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2011 (Veteran's Day) at the Bill Eisenhour Northeast Chapel, with full military honors to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City.
