McKenzie , Mary Francis
95, passed away November 08, 2011 at her home in Dallas. Born in
Oklahoma City, OK, she was predeceased by her parents, H. P. and Bessie
Moreland McKenzie , and her brother, H. P. McKenzie , Jr.
She is survived by cousins Jean and Will Lenhardt, their children and
grandchildren; Gerald and Brenda Cockes, their children and
grandchildren; and long-time friend Dorothy Myers. Mary Francis
graduated from Oklahoma City's Classen High School in 1934, attended
Oklahoma City University, and began what became a career of faithful
service with Baptist churches and denominational entities. She worked at
First Baptist Church, Oklahoma City, with Dr. W. R. White. In 1946 she
moved to Dallas to work with Dr. J. Howard Williams, executive leader of
the Baptist General Convention of Texas. She began serving as
educational secretary at Gaston Avenue Baptist Church in 1961 and then
transferred to Buckner Baptist Benevolences in 1964 to serve with Dr. R.
C. Campbell. She formally retired in 1981, but remained actively
involved in Gaston Avenue Baptist Church (now Gaston Oaks Baptist
Church) until her death. For many years she ministered to members of
that congregation who were unable to attend services.
Funeral services are under the direction of Hahn Cook Funeral Home in
Oklahoma City with burial at
Fairlawn Cemetery.
At a later date there will be a memorial service at Gaston Oaks
Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Christian Women's Job Corps,
