A 42-year-old Luther man who was injured in a truck-train collision that killed his wife, daughter and grandson last weekend is improving and able to talk to his family, his brother said Thursday.

James Buchanan said his brother, Richard, underwent surgery Wednesday to fuse his broken neck. Richard Buchanan 's spinal cord was severed in the wreck and he is paralyzed from the neck down.

He is in serious condition at Oklahoma Memorial Hospital...

Meanwhile, family members are preparing for the funeral of Richard Buchanan 's wife, Gracie Mae, 38, their 19-year-old daughter, Rhonda , and her 1-year-old son, Brandon.

James Buchanan said the funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Luther High School's auditorium, 320 E Second Street.

Another brother, Jerry Buchanan , said Richard Buchanan had been to Jones to get parts for his pickup and was returning to his home on NE 164 last Saturday afternoon when the collision occurred. He said Richard Buchanan has not been able to tell the family details of the crash.

The collision occurred at 3:20 p.m. at the NE 164 railroad crossing just west of Peebly Road. A Harrah man, Duane Erickson, was killed at that same crossing last November.

The crossing is marked with a sign, but...

Richard Buchanan has three children who were at home at the time of the crash. James Buchanan said those children _ Ronnie, 18; Ricky, 15, and Lisa, 12 _ have been at his home in Arcadia since the accident.
