OKLAHOMA CITY
Daniel
Horrice Elliott, 89, passed away Dec. 15, 2011. Funeral Services will be
Friday, December 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the Episcopal Church of The
Redeemer, 2100 N. Martin Luther King St., OKC, OK 73111. Mr. Elliott
will lie in state at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Thursday,
December 22, 2011, from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM, friends and family may
pay respect. The Masonic Memorial Services will follow at 7:00 PM,
Thursday, December 22, 2011 at the Episcopal Church of The Redeemer.
Interment will be The Rose Hill Cemetery, OKC, OK. In lieu of flowers,
please forward all contributions to The Episcopal Church of The
Redeemer. Services will be under the direction of Pollard Funeral Homes,
Inc., 2626 N. Post Road, OKC, OK 73141.
Daniel Horrice Elliott, was born July 6, 1922,
to Lucy and Harvey Elliott in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He was the fifth
of seven children. He attended Harrisburg Public Schools and while in
the eighth grade, he met his future wife, Flossie Estelle Lane. They
were married on March 31, 1945, and to this union four children were
born, Nancy, Barbara, Cheryl and David. On December 15, 2011, at 10:30
am, he departed this life after a brief illness, surrounded by his
family.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Flossie Estelle
Elliott, his parents and all his siblings.
Before graduating high school, he was drafted to serve in WWII; serving
in the United States Army from February 1943 to February 1946. His
career as a Pneudraulic Systems Mechanic began during World War II.
After completing his commitment to the United States Army, he returned
to Harrisburg, working various jobs.
On March 8, 1958, Daniel and his two daughters Nancy and Barbara were
confirmed at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
His civil service career began in 1951 at Olmstead Air Force Base,
Middletown, Pennsylvania; after the closing of Olmstead Air Force Base
in 1966, he transferred to Tinker Air Force Base, in Midwest City,
Oklahoma until retiring in 1982.
In 1966, Daniel Elliott and family transferred their membership to the
Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. The Elliott Family hit the ground
running. Daniel served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden in 1973;
served as a custodian and was grooming the Redeemer flower bed, until
recently. He was a member of Episcopal Church Men and the Men’s Gospel
Choir. He designed and built the church sign that sits in front of the
church; designed, built and installed the Hombre which contains the
sacraments on the Altar; built Hymnal Board on Gospel side to match the
existing Hymnal Board on the Epistle side, built the wheel supports for
the Altar Gate, and the Stations of the Cross from the old church and
placed them in the new facility when it was built in 1988.
Daniel was a member of F & AM Advanced Lodge # 17 and the 33 degree
Mason of the Prince Hall Family; volunteered in his community as a Block
Captain and cleaned the Dolphin Wharton Park on NE 63rd Street. He also
served as Ward 2 Parks Commissioner from 1995 to 1999.
In May of 2002, he returned to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to receive his
high school diploma, which was given to nineteen World War II Veterans.
Daniel loved his family, church, trains and park.
Mr. Elliott leaves to cherish his memory, wife: Rosamond; daughters:
Nancy Blackshire, Barbara Jones, Cheryl Booth; son: David;
grandchildren: Jeffery Jones, Jason Jones, Tracey Booth and Anthony
Booth; great-grandchildren: Kellian and Christopher Jones, Danielle
Booth; sister-in-laws: Minnie Redcross and Geraldine Brown: niece Miriam
Jones; a host of other loving family members and friends.
