James M. & Wanda Carol (Brewer) English
 

James M. English departed from this earth on the 2nd of January 2008. James was born in Plattsburg, MO, on October 11, 1924. His parents were Mr. William I. English, Sr. and the former Sarah Shea, both of Plattsburg, MO. The English family, four sisters and one older brother moved to Handley, TX in 1925. Mrs. English had several brothers who resided in that area. In 1931, the family moved to Oklahoma City, along with the addition of another brother and sister. Most of the time, the family lived close to the downtown area. The children all attended St. Joseph's School; all twelve grades were in the same school located at N.W. 5th and Harvey. In 1943, after completing his junior year, James enlisted in the Army Air Corp. and was called to duty in October of 1943. For the next 2 1/2 years, he served his country as an airplane mechanic. He was discharged at Ft. Chaffee on April 6, 1946. He then attended Central High School in Oklahoma City and received his diploma. He then attended OCU for one year and attended a Catholic Seminary.

In September of 1950, James was married, and in the years to come, raised four sons and one daughter. In 1958, the family moved to a larger home near the city, and James joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard as a weekend warrior, and in 1970, went to work full-time for the Guard as a civil servant. In 1973, James met and married Wanda Carol Brewer and moved to Nicoma Park . They both enjoyed gardening and had a greenhouse with many beautiful plants. Wanda was a very talented person, an excellent painter and made many beautiful things. They went to many craft fairs to sell and trade her wares. In May of 1993, James went to work at Wal-Mart in Midwest City and worked in the garden department where he met and enjoyed many new friends and associates. He retired from there October 2003.

James was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Georgia O'Brien, Minnie Ruddy and Helen Adams; also a younger brother who died in 1941.

James is survived by two sisters, Margaret Frier and Nadine Adams; an older brother, William I. English, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Tacoma, WA. He is also survived by his children, Raymond English and wife Jannelle of Luther, Sara English, Michael C. English, Thomas P. English, and Robert M. English all of Oklahoma City, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many wonderful friends and associates at Wal-Mart.

A military service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, January 7, 2008, at Arlington Memory Gardens Mausoleum with interment to follow at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City.

Wanda Carol (Brewer) English left this earth to find peace with her God on the 25th day of January 2007 after a long and courageous battle with rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Wanda was born in Ada, OK on July 31, 1932 to Mr. and Mrs. S.W. "Curly" Dodson. She attended Shawnee High School and was a member of the band. She graduated in May of 1950 and then attended Neff Business College in Shawnee. In 1952, Wanda married Ray Brewer and had two sons and a daughter. Wanda coached the girl's softball team for several years and spent many of her hours following her children in football, wrestling and baseball. In 1970 she went to work at the OUHSC.

In 1973 she met and married James English , and resided in Nicoma Park. Wanda was a very talented artistic person. She loved to oil paint, sew and crochet. She also made many beautiful quilts and afghans which she loved to share with her many friends and relatives. Wanda was also an avid gardener and had many beautiful plants in her yard and greenhouse. Wanda is survived by her husband, James; her sister, Juanita Waxelman of Cassville, MO. She is also survived by her children: son, Kenneth R. Brewer and wife Bobbie of Choctaw; daughter, Carol A. Modisette and her husband Rick of Choctaw, and a son, Douglas L. Brewer and wife Heidi of El Paso, TX; also grandchildren: Lindsay Smith, Cody Brewer, Tucker and Hunter Davis, Trent Modisette and KariAnn Wright, Colton Brewer, Joshua and Jason Selfe, and great-grandson, Garrett Wright.

Services will be held at Arlington Memory Garden Mausoleum at 36th and Midwest Boulevard on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation of Oklahoma City
