[no photo]Wilma Vera FARINO, 92, of Midwest City, passed away Jan. 16, 2002. She
was born Aug. 30, 1909 in Spencer, OK to Miller & Bessie (Osborn) White.
Raised as a farm girl in her early years, she often rode her pony,
"Fanny" to school, picked cotton, shucked corn, & canned & dried
vegetables from the family garden. She attended Choctaw & Harrah Schools
& was a starting guard on the Choctaw High School Team. She also
competed in track & field events & was a member of the Choctaw 4-H Club
1920. In 1926,
Wilma married Vin Anderson, and together they had 2 sons:
Johnny & Tommy. She worked as Rosie the Riveter at Douglas Aircraft at
Tinker Field during World War II. In 1941, Wilma married Mike J. Farino
. She was a member of: the Soldier Creek Home Extension Club for 68
years, becoming the oldest member; American Legion Post 190 Auxiliary
for 30 years; a chaplain at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 7192;
50 year Charter Member of Douglas Blvd. United Methodist Church; & she
spent many years as an officer & member of the Spencer Golden Agers.
Wilma also won over 2500 Blue Ribbons at State & Community Fairs in
canning, baking, & crafts.
She is survived by her 2 sons: Johnny &
daughter-in-law, Jo of Crescent, OK & Tommy & daughter-in-law, Linda of
Dallas, TX; 5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph
White of Harrah & sister, Minnie Dike of Spencer.
She is preceded death
by her husband, Mike, in 1972. Services will be held 10 am, Sat. Jan.
19, 2002 at the Douglas Blvd. United Methodist Church with interment at
Arlington Memory Gardens. Memorial.
