Ernest George Hotze, 80, a fifty-year resident of Houston, died
Thursday In a local hospital. Hotze, born in Oklahoma City on March
1, 1915, was a graduate of Classen High School and Oklahoma
University where he received a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He
worked his way through college by working for Indian Territory Oil
Illuminating Company as a roughneck and roustabout in the oil fields
near Norman, Oklahoma.
On December 7, 1941, he was hired by Dresser- Clark, a division
of Dresser Industries. In March, 1975. after 34 years with the
company, he retired as vice-president of sales. He founded
Compressor Engineering Corporation, a Houston manufacturing firm,
and was still serving as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive
Officer at the time of his death. He was a member of Annunciation
Catholic Church, Pi Kappa Alpha, the Houston Club, the Petroleum
Club, and Brae 8urn Country Club. In 1946, he founded the Sooner
Club of Houston. He served on the Board of Directors of the Southern
Gas Association and as the first president of the Foundation for
Life in Houston. In 1980, he served as financial chairman in Houston
for the Ronald Reagan for President campaign. Long active in the
Republican Party, he attended 17 state and 2 national party
conventions.
He was preceded in death by his parents,
Ernest George and Priscilla Hotze, his sister Elizabeth, and one
grandson, David Bradley Hotze.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret Fagan Hotze; his
son Dr. Steven Forrest Hotze, wife Janie, and their children, Mary
Elisabeth, Catherine, Sarah, Paul, Patrick, Deborah and Rebekah; his
son Bruce Read Hotze, wife Beth, and their children Elizabeth, Bruce
Jr., Christy, Michele, Helen, and Ernest HI; his son James Benedict
Hotze, wife Cindy, and their children, Melissa, Margaret Anne,
Timothy Ernest, William James and Lorraine; his son Ernest Mark
Hotze, wife Cathy, and their children, Ernest Matthew, John Luke,
and Gary; his son David Neill Hotze; his son Richard Kennan Hotze,
wife Nancy, and their children Philip and Alexander; his daughter
Gretchen Heerensperger, and her husband, Dr. Timothy E
Heerensperger, and their children, Jonathan, Jennifer, Bridget,
Emily, Gregory, and Laura; and his son Christopher Andrew Hotze.
wife Ashley, and their children, Thomas and Kathleen; and seven
nieces and four nephews. Rosary will be at Annunciation Catholic
Church at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday and the funeral Mass will be there at
10 a.m. on Monday. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to send
