Dewey Warren Landreth
Feb. 12, 1922 - Nov. 24, 2011
MIDWEST CITY, OK

Dewey Warren Landreth, 89, of Midwest City, died November 24, 2011 at the V.A. Home in Norman, Oklahoma. Dewey was born February 12, 1922 on the family Chickasaw allotment near Ringling, Oklahoma, to Robert & Hannah Landreth. Dewey served his country as a United States Marine in the South Pacific during WWII, including being part of the battle on Guadalcanal. During his time in the South Pacific, Dewey was named Governor of the Island of Rota, where in addition to his defense of the island, he was honored for leading evacuation efforts during a hurricane to protect the local islanders and servicemen. Dewey also served his country in the Korean War, where he participated in the brutal Chosin Reservoir Offensive and was one of the "Chosin Few." Dewey was honorably discharged from the service and returned to Oklahoma, where he married Esther McCoy, who had also served proudly as a United States Marine in WWII. Dewey and Esther were married for fifty years. During that time, Dewey was employed by the State of Oklahoma in various positions related to computer programming, including work for the State Budget Office and the Department of Human Services. Dewey & Esther were very involved in raising their two sons, in the lives of their extended families living in various parts of Oklahoma and the U.S., and in their church home, Midwest Boulevard Christian Church. A very special time in Dewey & Esther's lives was the time spent during their retirement years enjoying their two granddaughters.

Dewey was preceded in death by his loving wife, Esther; four brothers, Woodrow, Knute, Hubert, and Robert, Jr.; and sisters, Opal, Myrtle and Eva.

Dewey is survived by his son, Lloyd, wife Barbara, granddaughters, Hannah and Kelsey of Tulsa; son, Brian of Oklahoma City; and sisters, Juanita of Tennessee and Rita of California. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews that he was very proud of.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Barnes Friederich funeral home in Midwest City. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2011, at Midwest Boulevard Christian Church in Midwest City, with burial following at the Jones , Oklahoma, IOOF Cemetery . The family would also like to express its sincere appreciation for the loving care provided by Veronica Shepard and by the Norman Veterans Home. The family suggests that any gifts in Memoriam be made to either Midwest Boulevard Christian Church or the United States Marine Corps Semper Fi Fund (semperfifund.org).

LANDRETH

Esther Louise Landreth

Esther Landreth went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 20, 2008. At the time of her passing, she was surrounded by her loving family.

Esther is survived by her loving husband, Dewey, son Lloyd, his wife Barb, grandchildren Hannah and Kelsey, son Brian, sister Nadine Wyse, and many other loving family members. Esther was born in Jones, Oklahoma on December 3, 1922 to Charles and Mary McCoy. She had three other siblings, sisters Merle and Evelyn, and brother Vernon, all who have preceded her in death.

Esther attended college at Central State University in Edmond, OK. She served with pride in the United States Marine Corp as a Private during World War II at Camp Elliot. When she returned home, she met and married Dewey Landreth. She was a proud homemaker and extraordinarily talented cook for many years. A devoted Christian, Esther was a member of Midwest Boulevard Christian Church for over thirty years. She spent her later years working as a secretary for the Oklahoma Tax Commission. After her retirement, she spent many hours caring for those around her, especially her two granddaughters who were the delight of her life. Her strong character, kind spirit, and honest heart are to be missed by everyone she touched. But, we know that she has moved into a wonderful new home where she is happily cooking in the kitchen for family and friends she hasn't seen in awhile.

Esther 's funeral will be held at Midwest Boulevard Christian Church, mid-morning on Monday, March 24, 2008. She will be laid to rest at the IOOF cemetery in Jones, OK. Friends may call either the Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, on N.E. 23rd St. or MWBCC for more information.
