Dr. Rudolph Anthony D’Andrea passed away Saturday, June 17, in
Midwest City. He was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Providence, R.I. to
Armand and Irene D’Andrea and lived in Rhode Island until he
joined the U.S. Navy in 1943. While serving at Clinton Naval Air
Base in Oklahoma, he met Janice Ferguson and they were married
in 1946. Rudy and Jan moved to Midwest City in 1948 where he
worked for 30 years at Tinker Air Force Base rising to the level
of Branch Chief. During these years, he obtained his bachelor’s
degree from Oklahoma City University and his master’s degree
from Oklahoma University. After retiring from Tinker, he became
a professor of government and technical writing at OSU in
Oklahoma City for 15 years and acquired his Ph.D. Rudy was a
charter member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Midwest
City where he served as a Minister of the Eucharist, a greeter,
and a 4th degree member in the Knights of Columbus.
Rudy was preceded in death by his
parents; one brother, Armand D’Andrea Jr.; and one son, Michael
Anthony D’Andrea.
He is survived by his wife of 60
years, Jan D’Andrea of the home; two brothers, Norman and Eugene
D’Andrea of Warwick, R.I.; two sons, Mark D’Andrea and wife,
Rita of Midwest City, David D’Andrea and wife, Karen of Oklahoma
City; and one daughter, Pamela Sewell and fiancé, Jacques Landry
of College Station, Texas; grandchildren, Paul D’Andrea and
wife, Sasha, Matt D’Andrea and wife, Laura, Chris D’Andrea,
Nathan D’Andrea all of Oklahoma City, Holly D’Andrea of St.
Louis, Mo., Emily Sewell of Midwest City, Scott Sewell of
College Station, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Dominick,
Sylvia and Luke (due in August); and numerous extended family
and friends. We wish to express our sincere appreciation to the
doctors and nurses of Midwest Regional Medical Center and
Heritage Park Dialysis Center for their compassionate care.
Visitation was held at Barnes and
Johnson Funeral Home in Midwest City Monday, June 19, from 6
p.m. to 9 p.m. A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Philip
Neri Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 20, at 10 a.m. with
interment at
Arlington Memory Gardens followed. In lieu of flowers,
please donate to the St. Philip Neri Building Fund.
