James Kenneth “Jim” Storey
James Kenneth “Jim” Storey, 77, loving husband, father and
grandfather, died on Tuesday, June 20, 2006. A selfless man, Jim
put the needs of others before his own and was a lifelong mentor
to his two grandsons. He was born April 11, 1929 in Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma, to the late Blanton Ellis Storey and Sadie Ruth
Edwards. Jim and his 11 siblings grew up on his grandfather’s
farm in Shady Nook. While working for the family drilling
business, Storey Water Wells, Jim met the love of his life,
Katherine “Kitty” at Joe’s Ice Cream Parlor in Nicoma Park. Jim
and Kitty were united in marriage, November 1949. Their 56 years
of marriage has taken them on a joyous journey with stops in
California, New Mexico and Colorado, during which time Jim was
an oil field worker and mechanic. Upon returning to Oklahoma,
Jim and Kitty settled down and started their family. Jim, the
ever intelligent entrepreneur, opened Jim Storey Used Cars,
while Kitty began her 35-year career as an educator and Guidance
Counselor for Crooked Oak Public Schools. Born to them was a
beautiful daughter, Ginger Dianne, an accomplished CPA and Murrah Bombing Survivor.
Later, Jim proudly gave his daughters
hand in marriage to Capt. Ernie L Addison, USAF retired. After
owning and operating Jim Storey Used Cars, Jim became a merchant
and mainstay at Mary’s Ole Time Swap Meet in Midwest City and
First Monday Trade Days in Canton, Texas. Those blessed to have
spent a Saturday morning conversing with the strapping man in
overalls were rewarded with his wide smile and jolly laughter.
Jim is survived by his wife, Katherine; his daughter and her
husband, Ginger and Ernie Addison; two grandsons, David Addison
and his wife, Dawn and Jason Addison and his wife, Ammie; one
great-grandson, James Tyler Addison; six sisters, Louise
Gavignio, Ruth Lucille Gillis, Janice Cronk, Linda Fisher, Judy
Marler, Terry Anderson; and four brothers, Raymond E. Storey,
Richard Storey, Paul Storey, Robert Wayne Storey.
He is further
survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one
sister, Sharon Ann Storey. Funeral services for James Kenneth
“Jim” Storey were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 24 at Barnes
and Johnson Funeral Home, 1820 S. Douglas Blvd.
Interment will
be in Arlington Memory Gardens. Relatives and friends attended a
visitation at Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home Friday, June 23.
