- Mildred Shiplet (known also as Granny or Millie) passed
away on January 11, 2009. Millie touched the lives and hearts of many
with her "You Get From Giving" approach to life.
- She was born on
October 22, 1926 to Jerry and Edith Flinn in Cooperton, OK. Millie grew
up on farms in S.W. Oklahoma and graduated from Vinson High School.
Shortly after marrying Doyal Shiplet, they moved to the Bakersfield
area of California. Three years later, they returned to their "Okie"
roots.
For 17 years, Millie
was a dedicated stay at home mom raising her two children. Millie, who
was a natural caregiver, eventually took a job that spanned 30 years
with Baptist Hospital serving as a Nurses Aid, Unit Clerk and Monitor
Technician. She took pride in her work and was loved and respected by
her patients, co-workers, and hospital staff. Millie was preceded in
death by her parents, brother Ed Flinn, and husband Doyal. She is
survived by her daughter Letha Blevins of Edmond son and
daughter-in-law Kent and Sue Shiplet of Edmond her cherished
grandchildren, Sean Shiplet, Jennifer Muir, and Matt Parisi great
grandchildren, Kaylee Shiplet, Macy and Cole Muir and numerous nieces
and nephews. We appreciate the many family, friends, and former
co-workers who stayed with Millie during her time in Hospice.
Special thanks to
Ellie and Whiz Flinn, Joan Rogers, and Jerry Flinn for their dedicated
care giving. Memorial donations may be made to Stonegate Presbyterian
Church (17101 N. Western, Edmond, OK 73003). Services will be held at
Matthews Funeral Home (601 S. Kelly, Edmond) at 2:00 PM Wednesday
January 14, 2009, followed by burial at Arlington Memory Gardens
