PARTY LEADER
W. L. Alexander, 69, Dies At Pryor
Office.
Services for W. L. Alexander, 69-year-old
state political leader, will be conducted Tuesday
at. 3 pm in the Street and Draper funeral home. by
Rev. W. B. Harvey, pastor of the Trinity Baptist
church. Burial will be in Fairlawn cemetery, where
riles will be conducted by Masonic lodge No. 36.
Special services were held Monday at the Whitaker
State Orphans' home, Pryor. where. Alexander was
superintendent at time of his death. He died Sunday
as result of a heart ailment.
Alexander had been identified prominently with the
history of the state since 1889 when he made the
run. His activities included two terms as county
treasurer of Oklahoma county: manager of the
campaign to move the capital from Guthrie to
Oklahoma City; delegate to the national Democratic
convention in 1908. when William Jennings
Bryan was nominated; elected stale treasurer in
1014; candidate for governor in 1918; superintendent
of the Northern Oklahoma hospital, Enid, from 1926
to 1930. and superintendent of the Pryor institution
since October, 1935.

Gets Pryor Post
Mrs. W. L. Alexander. wife of the
superintendent of Whitaker State Orphans home at
Pryor who died Sunday. will be named superintendent
to succeed her husband, L. M. Nichols. chairman of
the 'state board of affairs, said Monday.

Alexander. a staunch Marland
supporter in the
governor‘s race four years ago. was named
superintendent of the home soon after Marland became
governor. During his illness the last few months
