Dr. C. Murray Fuquay, 80,
died suddenly on July 14, 1994 in a local
hospital. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Tx.,
and was a graduate of e Wayland College and
Hardin Simmons University. He held the
Doctor of Ministry Degree from Phillips
Univ., the Doctor of Divinity Degree from
Okla. Baptist., and a Master in Theology
Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological
Seminary. He was a member of the American
Association for Marriage and Family Therapy
and of
the American Association of Pastoral
Counselors. He served with the Chaplains
Corp of the US. Amy during World War II in
the Pacific front. In March 1946, Dr. Fuquay
came to Midwest City, where he served as
pastor of the First Baptist Church for 25
years under his leader-ship, two additional
local Baptist churches were founded, Country
Estates Baptist Ouch and Meadow-wood Baptist
Church. He has served as President of the
Baptist General Convention of Okla., on the
Board of Trustees for Okla. Baptist Univ.,
an the Foreign Mission Board and the Sunday
School Board of the Southern Baptist
Convention. Dr. Fuquay has been active
in marriage and family counseling and
hospital ministries. He was active in the
founding of Midwest City Regional Hospital
and was a longtime member and former
chairman of Its Board of Trustees. He has
also served on the Board of Trustees
and as Chaplain for he Baptist Medical
Center of Oklahoma. He has tamed actively In
he Midwest City Rotary Club and Me Mares, ay
Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. Fuquay Is
survived by his wife of 53 yews, Willene of
the home; his daughter Dr. D'Am Fuquay of
Grand Junction, Co.; his son, W.R. (Bob)
Fuquay, a daughter in-law, Mary Ellen and
two granddaughters, Amy and Katie, all of
St. Louis; and three sisters-in-law Dr.
Eunice Short of Shawnee;. Vanetta Fuquay of
Houston, Tx. and Beverly Fuquay of
Camarillo, Ca.
Services will be
held on Saturday, July 16, 1994, 1MO a.m. at
First Baptist Church of Midwest City. The
family suggests that those wishing to make
a donation to the Fuquay Scholarship Fund BT

FUQUAY Willene
Short Fuquay, 95, died at 7:05 am on Monday,
January 05 2009. Through-out her long life,
Willene touched the lives and hearts of many
as she shared their joys and sorrows and encouraged them to
experience the
good and the beautiful around them. She was
born in Mangum OK, and was the second of
three daughters born to W. T. and Clara
Short. When Willene was two, the family
moved to Shawnee, where Professor Short
taught mathematics at Oklahoma Baptist
University until his death. She graduated
from OBU in 1934 with a Bachelors in
Biology. She also held a Masters degree in
Art Education from OU (1937) and a Masters
degree in Religious Education from
South-western Baptist Theological Seminary
(1940).
She married Murray
Fuquay on Au-gust 2, 1939, and they remained life
partners until he died in 1994. In Spring
1945 Willene and Murray moved to Midwest
City, where he served as pastor of the First
Baptist Church for 25 years. She took
seriously her calling as a pastor's wife.
She loved serving her church, and was still
teaching a Sunday School Class well after
her 90th birthday. She found joy in doing
for others. As a teacher and caring friend,
she brought happiness and inspiration to
the lives of many. In addition to leadership
in many church activities, she was active in
the Premier Book Club, MidDel Art Guild, the
No. 1 Study Club of Mid-west City, and water
exercise telling.
She is survived by her
daughter D'Ann Fuquay, Grand Junction CO,
her son Bob Fuquay, St Louis MO, and two
granddaughters Amy Fuquay and Kati Fuquay of
St Louis MO, and a great-grandson Jesse
Fuquay.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
her parents, and two sisters (Eunice Short
and Jaxie Short, both of Shawnee). Her
children are grateful for her examples of a
persistent work ethic, a healthy life style,
diligent fiscal management, and re-silience.
She surrounded family and friends with
love, beauty, and order. Those who knew her
will cherish their memory of her faith, her
spirit of caring and sharing, and her
positive attitude. The family will receive
friends from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Tuesday at
Candlewood Chapel.
Services will be held
10:00 am Wednesday at First Baptist Church
of Midwest City, under the direction of Ford
Funeral Service, with burial to follow at
Arlington Memory Gardens. Contributions....
