Edward Russell Tash, 77, of Norman died Sunday, Feb.
5, in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he liked to spend
the winter months.
Services will be 1 p.m. today at Concord Missionary
Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Raines officiating.
Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park
Cemetery in Midwest City. Havenbrook Funeral Home in
Norman is handling arrangements.
Mr. Tash was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Oklahoma City,
to Tom and Mildred Hudson Tash. He was raised by his
mother and George Ward, going by the name of Ed
Ward. They moved often to find more farming work in
Oklahoma, Texas and California. Mr. Tash entered the
Navy in February 1946 following World War II. He was
a machinist aboard submarines and was honorably
discharged in December 1947.
He married Beatrice Dolores Smith May 1, 1948, and
they had two daughters and one son. He cared for Bea
while she battled cancer and they were together for
21 years. Mr. Tash married
Shirley Ann Jacobson-Doner in 1970 and they
raised her three sons. He cared for Shirley from
1986 until she died April 26, 1995. Following his
military service, he worked for Corkin Pump before
co-founding A-1 Valve Repair with Dewey Cooksey. In
April 1973, he founded E--S Equipment, which he ran
until he retired to care for his wife Shirley in
1986. Mr. Tash is remembered as a very
compassionate, charismatic man who was a charmer
with the ladies. He was an active member of Concord
Missionary Baptist Church in Norman and Caribbean
Baptist Church in Corpus Christi. He enjoyed
University of Oklahoma sports, cooking and had an
affinity for automobiles He was a charter member of
Hudson Essex Terraplane Club Dust Bowl Chapter and
remained a member for the rest of his life. He still
repaired and drove a 1951 sky blue Commodore Hudson.
He was a member of the Norman Moose Lodge for more
than two decades.
Mr. Tash was preceded in death by his wives Beatrice
and Shirley; one baby girl; parents; sister Mildred
Leona Parker Warren; and brother Alva Tash.
Mr. Tash is survived by his sister Ruby Faye Roby;
companion Kitty; children Edwina Gayle Willard,
Steven Wayne Tash and wife Nicole of Fort Smith,
Ark., Kenneth Earl Doner and wife Debbie of Newalla,
Byron Karnell Doner and wife Carol Sue of Norman and
Kelly Grant Doner and companion Marie Walls of
Norman; grandchildren Ginger Walls of Ohio,
Elizabeth Price of Nevada, John, Kenneth II, James,
Darian April, Russell Edwin, Shirley Ann Megan,
Misty and Sara Doner and Robert and Tiffany Cooksey;
two great-grandchildren; Chihuahua dogs Rocky and
Jamie Lee; and other family members, friends and
co-workers.
