One of Skiatook's oldest pioneers, Jacob Harrison
Fisher, passed away Thursday, August 6.
Jake Fisher was born in Williamsburg, Kansas on
January 25, 1877. Jake first came to the Skiatook
vicinity in the fall of 1893.
Jake purchased their marriage license in Tulsa County,
but they lived in Osage County. In this action, Jake became the first
man to apply for a marriage license in the state of Oklahoma.
Married Estella Hasty November 16, 1907.
In 1907 Jake was wed to Estella Hasty who
proceeded him in death in 1925.
Fourth born child William Everett preceded him
in death in 1916.
In 1921 Jake was baptized into the Reorganized
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he being one of the
saints who assisted in building the present church in Skiatook.
Jake was a member in good standing with the
I.O.O.F Lodge, in Skiatook for 37 years. He was past Noble Grand.
James Harrison Fisher, eldest son, preceded in
death in 1957.
Jake or Uncle Jake, as he was sometimes called,
was survived by four children, Audrey Marrs of Wynona, Virgil
Fisher of Skiatook, Velma Kennedy of Monterey, California and Charles
Fisher of the home.
Two surviving brothers of the deceased were Louis
Fisher of Skiatook and Alex Fisher of Williamsburg, Kansas.
Jacob was also survived by 15 grandchildren and 16 great grand-
children and a host of nieces and nephews and friends who morn his
passing.
Funeral services were held Monday August 10, at 2:00
p.m. in the Skiatook R.L.D.S. church with Elders W.B.Howard and
Frank Waymire officiating. Interment was made in Hillside
Cemetery, Skiatook, under the direction of Rogers Funeral Home,
Skiatook.
