Charner C. and Sarah E. (Nealey) Roberts
Submitted by Judi Welch

My ggf Charner C. Roberts and his wife Sarah E. Nealey-Roberts lived near Ada, Pontotoc county, OK when my gm Myrtle Victoria Roberts was born 1 May 1890. I am not sure when he came there but it was subsequent to the birth of their fifth child John W. in Texas, Mar 1889. Both parents were born in GA. He was born Dec 1858 and she was born Oct 1858. They were married in Murray county, GA on 25 Dec 1878. I have a copy of their marriage record. a

Their first child was Oscar W. Roberts, b. Aug 1879 in GA according to the 1880 Federal Census.
Other children were:
Jul 1882 - Loula O. Roberts - b.AR
Sep 1884 - Frank A. Roberts - b.AR
Oct 1886 - Samuel Roberts - b.TX
Mar 1889 - John W. Roberts - b.TX
1 May 1890 - Myrtle V. Roberts - b.IT
Aug 1895 - Tammy L.Roberts - b.IT
Oct 1896 - Charles L. Roberts- b.IT
Feb 1899 - Lora A. Roberts -b. IT

The latter dates and places are all confirmed by the 1900 Federal Census of the Chickasaw Nation, vol 6, ed 120, sh 66, line 12.

Daughter, Loula O. Roberts married Henry Marley 25 Sep 1901, [Pontotoc co Marriage Bk F, p. 15, #1292]. Apparently her parents moved after that (I'm assuming it was after the marriage) because in 1905 C.C. Roberts purchased a gravesite for his wife in a small cemetery near Fletcher, Comanche, OK. My grandmother told her son, my dad Albert E. Welch, that her mother had died when my gm was about 14.

It turns out that Charner eventually settled in McClain county, OK where my gm Myrtle Victoria Roberts married my gf Walter Franklin Welch on 28 Feb 1908. I have an original copy of their marriage record. They were married at her father's home in Victor twp, McClain co, OK.

Charner had met Mollie Gillespie-Jarvis who had children by a previous marriage. They married in Mar 1908. By 1910 they had a son, Walter b. in 1909 and by 1920 a daughter Nellie who had been born abt 1911. C.C. Roberts and his wife continued to live in various towns of McClain county ultimately residing in Blanchard. She died in 1934. He died 20 Apr 1941. Both are buried in Washington Cemetery, McClain co, Oklahoma.
