- DIES ON BIRTHDAY -
Mrs. Sarah J. SURRETT, passes peacefully Away, At
the Age of 78. Her Death Due to a General Nervous Breakdown --
Funeral Took Place, Wednesday.
Mrs. Sarah J. SURRETT, a most estimable lady died at the home of her daughter Mrs. A.L. SEVERS on Tuesday morning last at 6:30 o'clock. She took sick on Thursday prior to her death.
At first it was supposed she had a chill. Dr. QUINN was called. He said it was not a regular chill, but a general nervous break-down due to old age. She passed away on her birthday being 78 years old.
Mrs. SURRETT, was born and brought up in Georgia, near the city of Atlanta. She was the wife of Cicero SURRETT, who was shot and killed by a boot legger Nov. 01, 1875, at Cedartown, Georgia. The murderer was captured in Mississippi and was tried and convicted of murder in the first degree, but when his case was pending in the supreme court he escaped and was never captured.
Mrs. SURRETT, never married again. During the war years (WWI) she made her living for her self and four little children at spinning and carding, her husband being a Confederate Army. Several years after her husband's death she went to Texas to reside and lived in Lamar Co. until she came to Antlers.
She leaves seven Children to morn her loss - three sons and
four daughters. They are:

J.O. SURRETT, of Chccotah, [sic Chicota, Lamar Co.] TX.
Henry SURRETT, living in AL.
Mrs. Naomi SEAVERS, of Antlers [Pushmataha Co.], OK.
Mrs. Mende MILLER, of Risbee?, AZ.
Mrs. Lizzie WALLACE, of Oakland, AL. [sic Oaklevel, ]
Mrs. Mary MALONE, also living in AL.
She was a member of the Church of Christ since 1877. In her early days she was a member of the M.E. church.
Her funeral took place from the residence of her
daughter Mrs. SEAVERS on Wednesday afternoon last, at 3:00
o'clock.
The services were conducted by Elder Leo GARRETT, of Paris [Lamar
Co.], TX.
The interment was at the Antlers Cemetery.

Services for Mattie Belle THOMPSON, one of Pushmataha county's oldest residents, were conducted from the Assembly of God Church in Clayton at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, withe the pastor of the church officiating. Burial was in the Old Clayton cemetery under direction of Coffey Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Billy THOMPSON, Lloyd CATHER, Dillard
CATHER, James CATHER, Bill DUNN, H.A.
McCANDLESS and Donnie THOMPSON. Honorary bearers were Asa DENNIS,
Buck DENNIS, James PROTHO, Bill BURNETT, Wharton MATHIES and
Charles ALEXANDER.
Mrs. THOMPSON died at her home in Clayton early Monday
morning, November 20. She was 93 years of age, having been
born at Honey Grove, Texas, July 11, 1875.
She had lived in the Clayton community virtually all of her life
and was a member of the Assembly of God church.
Survivors include one son, Joe E. THOMPSON, Okmulgee, six
daughters, Cora PARKER, Fort Smith, Ark., Evelyn
BOATRIGHT, Fort Smith; Nola McCANDLESS, Mena, Arkansas; Nora
HARRISON, Texas City, Texas; Myrtle COSSEY, Clayton, and Helen
CATHER, Antlers, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services for W.H. THOMPSON, 70, are being held at 2:00
p.m. today at the Assembly of God church, who passed
away at his home Tuesday, April 1, 1941. For a number of years
Mr. THOMPSON had been a leading member of the
congregation.
The deceased was born March 25, 1871, at Eureka, Arkansas. In
1891 he was united in marriage to Miss Mollie Bell
MUSICK, to which union ten children were born.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. W.H. THOMPSON and the
following children, four boys and six girls:
Jasper Thompson,of Houston, Texas; Joe and Elden, of Tulsa,and
Floyd of Antlers; Mrs. Cora Lee PARKER and Mrs Evelyn BOATRIGHT,
of Ft. Smith; Mrs. Norma HARRISON and Mrs. Myrtle COSSEY, of
Texas City, Texas; Mrs. Nolan McCANLEY, Long View, Texas; Mrs.
Helen CATHER, of Antlers.
Palbearers were Messrs HALL, COSSEY, WORKMAN, ARBROUGHT,
WEATHERFORD, and BRUNER.
Funeral services were in charge of the Jones Funeral Home,
Antlers, with Rev. Jim RUSSELL, officiating. Burial was made in
the Clayton Cemetery.
NOTE: W.H. THOMPSON was the son of Seth and Mary
J."BURNETT" THOMPSON.
